Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about 2018 Founders Day of Giving.

What is Founders Day of Giving?

Alpha Sigma Tau's annual Founders Day of Giving is an exciting and interactive 27-hour giving event to grow a stronger future for the National Organization through the support of the Foundation. The 2018 day of giving will begin at 11:00 a.m. ET on Thursday, November 1, and run through 11:00 a.m. PT Friday, November 2. The event celebrates the 119th anniversary of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority's founding.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes! All gifts to the Alpha Sigma Tau Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. All online donors will receive an electronic receipt at the time the gift is made and a mailed summary of their annual giving for tax-purposes in January 2019.  Alpha Sigma Tau Foundation’s Tax ID number is: 63-0862852.

Who should participate in Founders Day of Giving?

It is our hope that all Sisters and friends of Alpha Sigma Tau participate in Founders Day of Giving by making a tax-deductible donation in honor of the impact the organization has had on their lives or on the life of a woman they love.

Collegiate members are encouraged to participate by joining the 1899 Society for Collegiate Giving with a donation of $18.99 or more. Members of the 1899 Society for Collegiate Giving receive an exclusive colored anchor dangle in recognition of their generosity.

By contributing a gift of just $5 or more, alumnae Sisters, friends, and family may help their preferred active collegiate chapter progress in the chapter challenge.

This is so fun! How can I get involved?

In addition to making a gift during the live event (November 1-2, 2018), individuals wishing to be more involved in Founders Day of Giving have the opportunity to participate as Ambassadors. Ambassadors will work with the Sorority and Foundation staff to increase member participation by promoting the event on social media and in their Alpha Sigma Tau communities. Sign up to become an Ambassador using the box on the home screen, or email foundation@alphasigmatau.org for more information.

How do you use my donation?

Gifts to the Alpha Sigma Tau Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, provide financial support for many of the Sorority's educational and charitable programs including Illuminate, Not Anymore, GreekLifeEdu, and more.

These initiatives provide our youngest Sisters with a supportive space to grow while learning skills needed to be the best versions of themselves in today's society. Additionally, the Foundation supports the educational goals of our members with more than $60,000 in academic scholarships available annually.

Unless otherwise specified, gifts made as part of Founders Day of Giving will benefit the Anchor Fund for annual giving. Gifts to the Anchor Fund have the biggest impact on our organization, as they allow flexibility to ensure your contribution is used where and when it is needed most. Thank you!

Can I make a gift over the phone?

We encourage you to make your donation online using our secure payment processor. However, if you prefer to make your gift over the phone, please call Emily Kindred, Director of Development, at 317-613-7566 during normal business hours leading up to or during the live event.

Gifts may also be received by mail at the following address:

Please note "Founders Day of Giving" on your check to ensure it is applied to the giving day event and supports your preferred active chapter in the Chapter Challenge if received before November 1, 2018.

Can my employer match my donation?

Many companies match charitable donations made by their employees. If your employer participates in a matching gift program, you may be able to double (or triple!) your Founders Day of Giving impact. Please email foundation@alphasigmatau.org to notify us of your employer matching gift and have it included in the Founders Day of Giving totals.

What is the Chapter Challenge?

The Chapter Challenge brings friendly competition to the day by offering exciting incentives to encourage and recognize participation by collegiate chapters in Founders Day of Giving.

The 2018 Chapter Challenge incentives are as follows:

The collegiate chapter with the highest cumulative dollar amount given through their foundersdayofgiving.org Chapter Challenge link between November 1-2, 2018, will receive a one-time $3,000 academic scholarship to benefit a collegiate chapter Sister in the 2019-2020 scholarship cycle.

Additionally, the following awards will be distributed for the chapters with the 2nd and 3rd highest total amounts contributed:

- First Runner-Up: One-time $2,000 academic scholarship to benefit a collegiate chapter Sister in the 2019-2020 scholarship cycle.

- Second Runner-Up: One-time $1,000 academic scholarship to benefit a collegiate chapter Sister in the 2019-2020 scholarship cycle.

All donations made through the chapter’s “Chapter Challenge” link will count towards the total, including, but not limited to, gifts made by collegiate and alumnae members, professors or university staff, family, and friends. All gifts made as part of the 1899 Society Collegiate Giving Challenge (October 1-November 2, 2018) will also be applied.

Chapter members may track their progress using the Chapter Challenge Leaderboard on the Founders Day of Giving website. Should there be a tie between two or more chapters at the conclusion of the event, the chapter with the highest total number of donors to the challenge will receive preference.
Want to help your active collegiate chapter start the day strong? Sign up to be a Founders Day of Giving Ambassador or consider becoming a lead donor by sponsoring a match or challenge event to encourage participation. For more information, contact Emily Kindred, Director of Development, at ekindred@alphasigmatau.org.

The Fine Print:

The recipients of the scholarships will be selected by the National Scholarship Committee, but only collegiate Sisters of the benefitting chapters will be considered. Imagine the impact this could have for one of your Sisters! To ensure your gift helps your preferred active collegiate chapter progress in the challenge, make your donation through the "Chapter Challenge" button at the bottom of the home screen or through the Chapter Challenge Event. Please note, only active collegiate chapters are listed as part of the Chapter Challenge.

What is the 1899 Society Collegiate Giving Challenge?

On November 1-2, 2018, Alpha Sigma Tau Sisters and friends will come together in celebration of 119 years of Sisterhood during our annual Founders Day of Giving.

4. Alpha Sigma Tau branded corn hole set valued at approximately $220 - perfect for campus activity fairs, recruitment and Sisterhood events, and tabling.

All chapters achieving a participation rate of 50% or more in the 1899 Society based on the reported fall 2018 chapter roster will receive special recognition in the spring 2019 edition of THE ANCHOR.

Additionally, all contributions through the 1899 Society Collegiate Giving Challenge will be applied to the chapter’s total in the official Founders Day of Giving Chapter Challenge (more details coming Thursday, October 18th), with even more exciting prizes up for grabs!
