Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about Founders Day of Giving.

What is Founders Day of Giving?

Alpha Sigma Tau's second annual Founders Day of Giving is an exciting and interactive 27-hour giving event to grow a stronger future for the National Organization through support of the Foundation. The 2017 day of giving will begin at 11:00 a.m. ET on Thursday, November 2, and run through 11:00 a.m. PT Friday, November, 3. The event celebrates the 118th anniversary of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority's founding.

Are gifts tax-deductible?

Yes! All gifts to the Alpha Sigma Tau Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. All online donors will receive an electronic receipt at the time the gift is made and a mailed summary of their annual giving for tax-purposes in January 2018.  Alpha Sigma Tau Foundation’s Tax ID number is: 63-0862852

Who should participate?

All collegiate and alumnae members and friends of Alpha Sigma Tau are encouraged to participate by making a tax-deductible gift of any size to the Alpha Sigma Tau Foundation during the giving day. All gifts made through the Chapter Challenge Button will help active collegiate chapters progress in the Chapter Challenge.

How can I get involved?

In addition to making a gift during the giving day period, individuals wishing to be more involved in Founders Day of Giving have the opportunity to participate as Ambassadors. Ambassadors will work with the Sorority and Foundation staff to increase member participation by promoting the event on social media and serve as liaisons between the National Organization and their personal Alpha Sigma Tau network. Sign up to become an Ambassador using the box on the home screen, or email foundation@alphasigmatau.org for more information.

What do gifts to the Foundation support?

Gifts made to the Alpha Sigma Tau Foundation provide financial support for many of the Sorority’s educational and charitable programs including Illuminate, Not Anymore, GreekLifeEdu, Chapter Advisory Board Talent Development, and more. These initiatives provide our members with the resources and skills needed to be successful in today's society. Additionally, the Foundation supports the education goals of our members with more than $42,000 in academic scholarships available annually.

Unless otherwise specified, gifts made as part of Founders Day of Giving will benefit the Anchor Fund for annual giving. Gifts to the Anchor Fund have the biggest impact on our organization and allow us to support the areas of greatest need.

Can I make a gift over the phone?

We encourage you to make your donation online using our secure payment processor. However, if you prefer to make your gift over the phone, please call Emily Kindred, Director of Development, at 317-613-7566 during normal business hours.

What is the Chapter Challenge?

Alpha Sigma Tau Foundation is pleased to offer exciting incentives to encourage and recognize participation by collegiate chapters in Founders Day of Giving. The Chapter Challenge brings friendly competition to the day while supporting our mission of funding initiatives that impact the lives of members of Alpha Sigma Tau.

1. Chapter with Highest Total Amount Contributed:

The collegiate chapter with the highest total dollar amount given through their link on the Chapter Challenge page November 2-3 will receive a one-time $3,000 academic scholarship to benefit a collegiate chapter Sister in the 2018-2019 scholarship cycle.

Additionally, the following awards will be distributed for the chapters with the 2nd and 3rd highest total amounts contributed:

First Runner-Up: One-time $2,000 academic scholarship to benefit a collegiate chapter Sister in the 2018-2019 scholarship cycle.

Second Runner-Up: One-time $1,000 academic scholarship to benefit a collegiate chapter Sister in the 2018-2019 scholarship cycle.

All donations made through the chapter’s “Chapter Challenge” link will count towards the total, including, but not limited to, gifts made by collegiate and alumnae members, professors or university staff, family, and friends.

Chapters may track their progress for the highest total amount contributed using the Leaderboard on the Founders Day of Giving website. Should there be a tie among two or more chapters at the conclusion of the event, the chapter with the highest total number of donors to the challenge will receive preference.

2. Chapter with Highest Participation Percentage in 1899 Society for Collegiate Giving:

At the close of the Founders Day of Giving event on November 3, the collegiate chapter with the highest participation rate (percentage) in the 1899 Society for Collegiate Giving for the 2017 calendar year will receive a one-time $1,000 academic scholarship to benefit a collegiate chapter Sister in the 2018-2019 scholarship cycle.

Using a percentage, chapters of all sizes have an equal shot at receiving this benefit! Participation in the 1899 Society in advance of Founders Day of Giving will count toward the total percentage.

The results of this challenge will not be represented on the electronic Leaderboard, but updates will be provided throughout the day. Should there be a tie among two or more chapters, those chapters will be put into a drawing to determine a winner.

The Fine Print:

The recipients of the scholarships will be selected by the National Scholarship Committee, but only collegiate Sisters of the benefitting chapters will be considered. Imagine the impact this could have for one of your Sisters!

To ensure your gift helps your preferred active collegiate chapter progress in the challenge, make your donation through the "Chapter Challenge" button at the bottom of the home screen or through the Chapter Challenge Event. All gifts made through the Chapter Challenge support the Anchor Fund for Annual Giving.

Collegiate chapter participation percentage will be calculated based on the collegiate chapter roster in Officer Portal as of November 1, 2017.

Only active collegiate chapters are listed as part of the Chapter Challenge.
